Trauma is not only about the event. It is about what your body and mind learned in order to survive it — and those lessons can keep running long after the danger has passed.

Trauma therapy at Havenoak is careful and paced. With Tomasz, the first stage is always stabilisation: learning ways to steady yourself when memories surface, so that you feel in charge of the work rather than swept along by it.

When you feel ready, he may suggest EMDR or trauma-focused CBT. Both have a strong research base for single-event trauma, and both can be adapted for longer, more complicated histories. You set the pace, and you can pause at any time.

If you are in immediate danger or crisis, please call [local emergency number] or [crisis line] rather than waiting for a session.

Questions about trauma

Will I have to talk about what happened in detail?

Not before you are ready, and sometimes not at all. EMDR in particular does not require you to describe every detail out loud.

How do I know if I am ready for trauma work?

We spend the first sessions finding out, and building steadiness first. Starting slowly is part of the treatment, not a delay.
